A look back on 2018
What a year 2018 has been, without a doubt one of the busiest in our 40+ year history! A year which saw our engineers setup kit at each end of the temperature spectrum, from ice cold Finland for ‘Tolkien’ to sun filled Malaga for Outlaw King. We installed kit in Amsterdam for Steve McQueen’s fantastic new film ‘Widows’ and as usual we installed Avid’s, Adobe’s, Storage Servers and more across the UK from Glasgow to Somerset with a lot of London in between.
We saw a whole host of comedies this year such as ‘The Festival’, ‘Johnny English Strikes Again’ and ‘Stan and Ollie’ (coming out this Jan), not to mention the absolutely brilliant ‘Dead in a Week’, a low budget feature we were proud to have worked with. We were also privileged to work on a number of high profiled BBC dramas including ‘Informer’ and ‘The Little Drummer Girl’. We aided and abetted the ‘King of Thieves‘ in re-creating the tale behind the Hatton Garden heist, we made new friends with ‘The Little Stranger’ and we welcomed old friends back once again for the 7th time on ‘Strikeback’.
2018 saw a dramatic rise in shows destined for the streaming platforms with involvement from us in projects such as ‘The Dark Crystal’ for Netflix, ‘Origin’ for YouTube and our continued involvement in drama juggernaut ‘The Crown’. We donned our thinking caps once again to support Taskmaster on Dave and one of our laptops took a ride up a mountain on a horse to support Max Stainton on his incredible quest to Ride Everest, which we are glad to report he successfully achieved!
Our LTO backup as a service, ARCHIE, continues to grow with us having archived Petabytes of storage for a whole host of clients throughout the year. We have now doubled the number of LTO libraries we own to cope with the demand and have invested heavily in our custom built database systems to keep track of jobs and speed up the processfrom receiving clients media to getting it back out the door with an LTO copy made and verified. In addition, we have added in-house Tri-Optic labelling so we can tailor professionally made barcodes for your project too.
Our sales division, Salon Pro Sales continues to expand with increasing sales in G-Technology, LaCie and iStorage leading the way. 2019 see’s a relaunch of Glyph, historically popular with sound editors but now with added focus on the entire creative industry. Our Margaret Street office just a few mins from Oxford Circus continues to serve central London well with same day central London delivery of all the major brands.
We sadly said goodbye to some fantastic clients & former colleagues this year. Mark Livolski whom we worked with on Fred Claus sadly passed away and we lost the dear assistant editor Gwill Hewetson, one of the nicest and craziest people ever to grace soho. Last month we also received sad news of the tragic death of one of our former engineers Dom Bassett who worked with us for many years and travelled all over the world installing systems. We will continue to raise many glasses to you all.
As we venture into 2019 we already have a number of existing clients working hard to meet their release dates in the coming months and a number of confirmed new bookings starting in the next 12 months ready for 2020 releases and beyond! There is always room for more though, and with our biggest team ever and our largest fleet of kit to date, we invite anyone looking to start a project in 2019 to get in touch and see how we can provide you with the equipment you want at the budget you need.
Goodbye 2018, hello 2019!
